Characteristics

The Friesian cattle breed, also known as Holstein, is appreciated for its widespread presence throughout the world.

The average size of adult animals varies: males reach a height at the withers of between 140 and 155 cm, with a weight ranging from 550 to 750 kg; females are generally lighter. The coat is black and white, with distinctive markings. The build is solid and elongated, with strong limbs and well-defined hocks. It is a vigorous breed, suited to sustaining high milk yields, yet also hardy and undemanding, capable of adapting to different environmental conditions.

Taste

Friesian beef is appreciated for its tenderness and delicate flavour, thanks to a significant layer of intramuscular fat that makes it juicy and tasty. Although it is considered less prized than other beef breeds, the breed is selected for the quality of the milk it produces. Its meat is rich in nutrients and ideal for preparations such as burgers, pan-seared or grilled meat, and sausages. It is considered a lower-quality choice than breeds such as Chianina or Limousin.
