Hereford

Characteristics

Hereford is a beef breed developed in the English county of Herefordshire and now distributed internationally. Both horned and Polled Hereford lines exist; the red coat with white face, underline and lower legs is its most recognisable visual trait.

The breed is used in grazing systems and both terminal and maternal crossbreeding. There is no single global weight or height valid for every Hereford population; the American Hereford Association treats mature cow weight and frame score as measured breeding-programme traits.

Taste

In well-marbled lots, Hereford offers a rounded, recognisable beef flavour, gentle sweetness and juiciness that supports a tender bite. Choose it for a classic, reliable offer: rib-eye, rib and striploin on the grill, brisket for barbecue, mince for burgers and hindquarter cuts for roasting.
