Marinhoa

Characteristics

Marinhoa is a native Portuguese breed from the lagoon and coastal areas of Baixo Vouga. Historically selected for farm work, it is now raised primarily for beef and remains part of the region’s livestock heritage.

It is a large, tall-legged, docile and adaptable animal with a yellow coat in varying shades. The DGAV standard gives about 135 cm at the withers, 600–700 kg for mature females and 900–1,000 kg for males.

Taste

Marinhoa can offer a full, savoury flavour with gentle sweet and grassy nuances, compact grain and good juiciness in well-finished lots. Choose it to support a Portuguese menu or a beef offer with rural character: rib and loin on the grill, hindquarter cuts roasted, and shoulder or forequarter muscles in cozido or stews.
