Characteristics
Norwegian Red (NRF) is a composite population developed in Norway and selected through a balanced index. Alongside milk production, the programme places weight on health, fertility, longevity, calving traits and beef performance.
Geno gives an average mature cow live weight of about 610 kg; Norwegian cows generally range from 550 to 650 kg, while bulls may reach 1,300 kg. Mean first-lactation rump height is 138.4 cm, a measure not directly equivalent to withers height.
Taste
With good finishing, Norwegian Red can offer a clean, savoury, medium-intensity flavour, even grain and pleasant juiciness. Choose it for a versatile menu: well-aged loin and rump for sliced steak or grilling, hindquarter cuts for roasting, and mature cow or forequarter meat for fuller-flavoured ragù and braises.
